"The more layering in a bedroom, the more comfortable the room becomes," Hill explains.\r\n\r\n\r\nArtwork\r\n\r\nArtwork is one of the easiest ways to personalize your bedroom, as it's an extremely personal form of expression -- both for the artist and the buyer. Choose paintings, sculptures, sketches or photographs that speak to you. "A unique painting or two sitting inside a vintage fireplace mantel is a pretty typical look in my bedroom," shares Hill. Flea markets, yard sales and thrift stores are great places to find affordable treasures that'll make all the difference in your bedroom.\r\n\r\n\r\nFresh Flowers\r\n\r\n\r\nFresh flowers can add a burst of color and whimsy to your room. Though the faux variety will obviously last longer, there's something particularly charming about fresh cut buds. "Flowers at the bedside are a must for me," says Hill. "They lift my spirits and add a touch of romance to the room."\r\n\r\n\r\nCreative Furniture\r\n\r\nUse your imagination when furnishing your bedroom. For example, a $40 disheveled dresser can easily become a standout piece after it has been repainted. Additionally, a basic chair can house a tower of books in lieu of a traditional bookcase. "I prefer a stack of vintage suitcases and an old trunk as my bedside tables, as they are more interesting than traditional furniture and double as storage," shares Hill.\r\n\r\nPerfect Lighting\r\n\r\n"Lighting obviously sets the mood in a bedroom," confesses Hill, who prefers mismatched quirky vintage lamps at her bedside and paper lanterns and twinkle lights strung above her head in lieu of traditional overheard light sources. The perfect lighting makes all the difference in your bedroom, so consider unconventional light sources to achieve the effect you're looking for.\r\n
