Yiwu, China—At 21:19 May 1st, the Newgen E3737 was slowly approaching the runway and made a smooth landing on the No.2 tarmac at Yiwu Airport. This flight was departed from Bangkok, Thailand at 17:22 and arrived at Yiwu within four hours. It marked a regular route from Yiwu to Bangkok was expected to be opened.
In order to meet passengers’ needs to regularly fly back and forth between Yiwu and Thailand, Newgen opened a new regular route E3737/8 and used the wide-body Boeing 737-800/400. The carrier will run 3 flights weekly on Monday, Thursday and Saturday respectively. The new route will depart from Bangkok at 17:00 and arrive at Yiwu at 21:00. After a short break, the flight will return from Yiwu at 22:00 and fly back at Bangkok at 00:55. An occupancy rate of 96.8% on its maiden flights showed this new route was warmly received by Yiwu and Bangkok tourists.
More international routes launched
Yiwu airport started running in 2014 and so far, has launched international routes to Hongkong, Taipei, and South Korea. Its handling capacity is keeping on the rise. In 2016, it totally handled 426 international aircrafts and carried 44, 996 passengers, which jumped by 21.4% and 25.1% respectively on a yearly basis.
At present, there are two international airlines available at Yiwu airport, Yiwu-Hongkong and Yiwu-Taipei. Later, in order to meet tourist’s needs, in 2015 and 2016, it opened seasonal flights like Yiwu-Muan, Yiwu-Seoul, Yiwu-Bangkok, and Yiwu-Taegu. But in this constantly growing economic market, travelling abroad becomes quite normal and fairly popular among common people. Due to the fact that the original seasonal flights cannot handle all passengers’ traffic anymore, Yiwu airport decided to switch the seasonal Yiwu-Bangkok flight to a regular route. This move will bring great convenience to Yiwu and nearby passengers, and will have a vitally active role in widening Yiwu airport’s global aviation network and attracting more foreigner businessmen to go into Yiwu market.
We’ve obtained a news from Yiwu Customs, that the new regular route will start on Aug., 1st. Since then, passengers from Yiwu and neighboring cities can directly fly from Yiwu to Thiland. Compared to departing from Hangzhou or Shanghai international airport, this new route saves at least one and half traveling hours. It played a crucial part in carrying out the international trade comprehensive reform pilot and quickening the process to build Yiwu itself as an international land port city.
